Market Comments: As of February 2014
After an uninspiring start to 2014, stocks rebounded strongly in February with most major indices finishing the month in positive territory year to date. Severe winter weather here in the U.S. and growing tension between Russia and the Ukriane overseas may have created near term uncertainty, but investors seemed to view these as transient risks. Janet Yellen’s transition to new Fed chair has smoothly, and the risk of an unexpected shift in monetary policy is likely minimal for the time being. It was a quiet month in the bond markets, yields ended up fairly close to where the started.
